Diversity in Health Care

There is no universal definition of diversity, however, the concept is generally described as having a range of different people participating in the design, organization and delivery of services. Differences in population groups may reflect differences in age, gender, ethnicity, culture, language and various other socio-economic characteristics.


How does diversity benefit healthcare?


1) Enhances good decision-making by reducing the likelihood of ‘group-think’;
2) Facilitates strategic planning by critically evaluating established, as well as alternative strategies;
3) Increases awareness and understanding of community Interests, concerns and unmet health needs;
4) Provides greater representation of service area patients and community stakeholders;
